Proviron (Mesterolone)

Proviron (Mesterolone) is a unique anabolic steroid. Unlike almost every other AAS, it is not used to build muscle mass. It has very weak anabolic activity in muscle tissue.

Instead, Proviron is used as a "synergist" or support compound. It enhances the look of the physique (hardening), boosts libido, and makes other steroids more effective.

Mechanism of Action

Proviron is a DHT derivative. Uniquely, it is not C-17 alpha-alkylated, but rather methylated at the 1-position. This protects it from liver metabolism enough to be oral, but it avoids the heavy liver toxicity of Winstrol or Dbol.

However, once in muscle tissue, Proviron is rapidly reduced into inactive metabolites by the 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzyme. This is why it does not build muscle.

It has an extremely high affinity for SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin).

Primary Effects

1. SHBG Binding (The Multiplier Effect)

SHBG binds to testosterone, rendering it inactive. Proviron binds to SHBG more strongly than testosterone does. This displaces testosterone, leaving more "Free Testosterone" circulating in the blood to build muscle. Adding Proviron can make a 500mg Test cycle feel like 700mg.

2. Cosmetic Hardening

As a pure androgen, it promotes a hard, vascular, grainy look similar to Masteron.

3. Libido & Well-being

It is prescribed medically to treat low libido. On cycle, it prevents "Deca Dick" or libido crashes associated with other compounds.

4. Anti-Estrogenic Activity

Proviron has a mild affinity for the aromatase enzyme, preventing it from converting testosterone to estrogen. It acts as a very mild AI (Aromatase Inhibitor).

Side Effects & Harm Reduction

Proviron is generally considered one of the safest steroids regarding organ health, but it has specific androgenic risks.

1. Androgenic Side Effects

As essentially pure oral DHT, it can cause hair loss (MPB) rapidly in prone individuals. It can also cause acne and prostate enlargement.

2. Liver Toxicity

Unlike other orals, it is generally not hepatotoxic. It can be run for longer durations (10-12 weeks) safely alongside injectables.

3. Suppression

While mild, it is still suppressive to natural testosterone production at bodybuilding doses (50mg+). It should not be used as a "PCT" bridge.

Pharmacokinetics & Dosing

Half-Life: ~12 Hours

• Dosage: Standard bodybuilding dose is 25mg to 50mg per day. Some go up to 100mg, but returns diminish.
• Frequency: Usually split AM/PM.
