Melanotan II
A profile on the "Barbie Drug," used for rapid tanning and libido enhancement.
Melanotan II
Melanotan II (MT2) is a synthetic analog of the peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH).
It was originally developed to treat sexual dysfunction and skin cancer (by increasing protective tanning). In the fitness world, it is famously used to achieve a dark tan with minimal sun exposure and as a potent aphrodisiac.
Quick Specs
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Active Compound | Melanotan II |
| Half-Life | ~1 Hour |
| Mechanism | Melanocortin Agonist |
| Administration | Subcutaneous (SubQ) |
Mechanism of Action
MT2 is a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1, MC3, MC4, MC5).
- MC1 (Skin): Stimulates melanogenesis (production of melanin pigment).
- MC3/MC4 (Brain): Increases sexual arousal and suppresses appetite.
Pharmacokinetics & Dosing
Dosing Protocol
Start LOW. MT2 is potent.
- Loading Phase: 100mcg - 250mcg daily until desired tan is reached.
- Maintenance Phase: 500mcg once or twice a week.
- UV Exposure: You need some UV exposure (sun or bed) to activate the tan. It won't work in a dark room.
Primary Effects
1. Deep Tan
Produces a dark, natural-looking tan even in fair-skinned individuals (Type 1/2 skin).
2. Libido
Potent pro-erectile effects in men and arousal in women. Often occurs 2-4 hours after injection.
3. Appetite Suppression
Acts as a mild appetite suppressant (nausea-related).
Side Effects & Harm Reduction
Nausea:
The Come-up: Severe nausea is extremely common immediately after injection.
- Tip: Inject right before bed to sleep through the nausea. Take an antihistamine (like Zyrtec) 30 mins before to reduce it.
1. Moles & Freckles
Existing moles will get darker. New freckles may appear. This is usually reversible but can be alarming.
2. Spontaneous Erections
Can cause erections lasting hours.
