HGH (Human Growth Hormone)
A profile on Somatropin, the master hormone for cell reproduction, anti-aging, and hyperplasia.
HGH (Human Growth Hormone)
Human Growth Hormone (HGH or Somatropin) is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration. It is naturally produced by the pituitary gland.
In bodybuilding, it is considered the "holy grail" for breaking past genetic limits because it induces hyperplasia (creation of new muscle cells), whereas steroids typically induce hypertrophy (enlargement of existing muscle cells).
Quick Specs
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Active Compound | Somatropin (191aa) |
| Half-Life | ~2-4 Hours (Active life much longer via IGF-1) |
| Detection Time | Variable (Bio-identical) |
| Class | Peptide Hormone |
| Administration | Subcutaneous (SubQ) or IM |
Mechanism of Action
HGH travels to the liver where it signals the production of IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1). IGF-1 is the primary mediator of the growth-promoting effects of HGH.
It promotes lipolysis (fat burning) directly and muscle growth indirectly via IGF-1.
Pharmacokinetics & Dosing
Dosing Protocols
HGH dosing depends entirely on the goal.
- Anti-Aging / Fat Loss: 2-3 IU per day.
- Muscle Growth (Bodybuilding): 4-8+ IU per day.
- Timing:
- AM Fasted: Maximizes fat loss.
- Pre-Bed: Mimics natural pulsatile release (good for anti-aging).
- Post-Workout: Synergistic with insulin for mass.
Primary Effects
1. Hyperplasia
The creation of new muscle fibers. This permanent increase in genetic potential is why pros use HGH.
2. Rapid Fat Loss
HGH forces the body to use fat for fuel, even in a caloric surplus.
3. Healing & Anti-Aging
Improves skin elasticity, sleep quality, and tendon strength.
Side Effects & Harm Reduction
Water Retention:
Carpal Tunnel: A common side effect of HGH is water retention in the hands and wrists, leading to numbness or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If this occurs, lower the dose.
1. Insulin Resistance
Chronic HGH use raises blood sugar. It can lead to Type 2 Diabetes if not managed.
- Management: Monitor fasting blood glucose. Metformin or Berberine is often used alongside it.
2. Acromegaly
At extremely high doses for long periods, bone growth in the face, hands, and feet can occur.
Tracking HGH
Using the Anabolic Tracker app:
- Inventory: Add HGH.
- Scheduling: Daily (usually AM or Pre-bed).
- Metrics: Track Blood Glucose (Morning Fasted). This is critical.
- Notes: Log any numbness in hands/fingers.
