SS-31 (Elamipretide/Bendavia) is a tetrapeptide that targets the Inner Mitochondrial Membrane.
Unlike MOTS-c (which acts as a metabolic signal), SS-31 is a structural repair peptide. It binds to Cardiolipin, a lipid crucial for the electron transport chain. By stabilizing Cardiolipin, SS-31 restores the mitochondria's ability to produce ATP efficiently and reduces oxidative stress.
